about caradotcom.com

A couple of years ago I started incorporating nature themes into my personal web site theme design. It all started with watching Ground Force on BBC America. I've been through a few designs, but I think it shows growth in abilities as well as preference. The web site theme must match both the target audience as well the content (or owner). I've gone as far as to install Movable Type for blogging and content management.

The Technical Details

In case you are interested in the details of how the site was designed and developed.

HTML 4.01 Strict & CSS

I migrated up to XHTML for awhile but came back to 4.01 after learning about headers and how the browser could render it as an XML document if the headers aren't quite right. I'll get back to XHTML eventually. I'm using a table-less design and am working on embracing Web Standards. CSS definitely makes things easier to maintain.

Typography

My logo is in Myriad Pro. Headers are in Arial and body text in Verdana. Verdana gets to be too wide at larger sizes to use comfortably for headers.

Software

The usual suspects: Macromedia Dreamweaver & Fireworks, and Adobe Photoshop. Homesite is really nice for the MT template editing since you can't really render the pages anyway.

Photography

Istockphoto.com has a great selection of photos. I found the one I'm using for the design there along with a few others. Maybe I'll incorporate them in the future.

Hosting

HostNexus is the current cyber-home for the site.

My Other Sites

  • My portfolio and resume are available at carapeterson.com
  • One of my hobbies is Egyptology. I created a site of links to resources of interest: virtualegyptology.com. (It's about due for a redesign and new strategy.
