The Kindness of Strangers

So I was sitting at the train station this morning looking fairly pathetic, I guess. I was feeling a bit down and started thinking about what it would be like to ride in the food car of one of those expense trains. Now that I think about it, I was just about the only one on the platform and boy was it cold. Most people took the week off. The conductor for the expense train called out to me and asked how far I was going. I only said a few stops, not really thinking that hard about it. He motioned for me to jump on. I actually got to ride in the food car! I think the part that really got me was that he said how maybe doing something nice for a person would give him a blessing for the day. That hit home more than he could ever know.

So we got to talking and I mentioned how I was actually going further than the next stop, to the city. He offered to let me stay on the train. He said consider is a belated Christmas gift. The timing of it all was beyond belief. I kept thinking about "pay it forward". You do good things not expecting to get in return, but it is nice when something happens. Last night I donated money to Amazon's Tsunami effort. I generally don't donate to things but with the devastation that occurred, it was the least I could do. Did I receive blessing in return?

Mr. Conductor you'll never know how much letting me ride the train that day meant to me. I wish you many, many blessings.
