Time to shape up.
So I came to the realization 5 months ago that I really needed to shape up. You know the usual suspects: eat better and exercise. The eating better was fairly easy as swapping out my lunch for something better did not take much effort. The exercise thing was another problem. With the hour and a half commute each way (two hours if I miss my connection), it's hard to find time to do much when I get home. At Christmas I suggested to mom that we check out elliptical machines. Actually, it was a suggestion to me from a co-worker since my knees and back aren't great (and I'm mid-20s). Anyway, at New Years we decided to buy one. Little did we know it would come in pieces. Mom did a great job putting it together. It was touch and go for a while. So for now, I can do about 5 minutes a day before my knees really beg me to stop. I still need to walk up and down stairs.
Over the summer, I decided to try Pilates. You really need open space in order to do it right. For about a week after I tried it the first time, I could barely move. I'm not sure if I hurt myself or just found muscles I never used before. Anyway, I decided to start it up again. My abs need work. It really wasn't too bad this time. There's hope for me yet. I figure I'll keep it to twice a week. Hopefully I'll get used to it enough to work up to the intermediate DVD. I wonder if they make an abs one. Granted, abs is a big focus of Pilates anyway.
