Designers' Block
So I'm trying to reinvent one my websites. It needs to be more than just a few pages of links (especially after reading about search engine optimization). But now that I think about it, I have a few websites like that so they'll all need to be reinvented. I thought that I had a strategy for getting it done, but it just doesn't seem to be coming together. The design is definitely proving to be difficult because I know what I need to include but it just doesn't seem to work out. And, since I would be the primary copywriter as well, that's also a lot bigger than I realized. I have the topics that I'd like to include but putting together pages of at least 250 words isn't all that easy (not to mention the research involved).
Ok, so it's time to take a step back and think about this for a second. It's more than just putting together some nifty graphics and text. Considering that I've been doing this for a few years, I should now that by now, which I do but sometimes in the world of unofficial personal projects that message gets lost. On top of that, the website needs to be semi-marketed (or at least find some directories to link it from so that the search engines find it). It's easier to find blog directories than informational website directories. Maybe I need to go in that direction? The website needs a content management schedule so that it stays fresh. So I guess that leaves me back in research-mode to continue planning a bit longer before jumping headfirst into a visual design. The good news is that my web host for the website is looking into Urchin again so maybe I'll be able to capture better usage statistics. The program that I'm currently using doesn't help me figure out if it's me visiting the website or an actual user.
Back to planning!!!
