Getting the band back together

I've been hearing about the Live 8 concert in passing. You'd think I would know more about it because one of the concerts is in Philly. But alas, I'm completely out of touch with the music scene. I prefer Classic Rock stations to Top 40 stations. Maybe I'm just too nostalgic for my own good, but I did buy a bunch of new tunes at iTunes but they're all related to Alias.

Anyhoo, I almost considered going to the Philly show despite the massive crowd warnings because I heard that Pink Floyd was getting back together the for cause. Differences aside, they were getting back together (at least for the show, not sure if it will be longer) in order to help with something important.

Now, Pink Floyd is really before my music time, but I am a Pink Floyd fan. The first Pink Floyd song I remember hearing was "Money" off Dark Side of the Moon when I was in 7th or 8th grade for a team project that I was working on about the 1970s for Music class. I didn't cross paths again with the group until my freshman year at college when I went to a laser show (in Philly no less) for The Wall. I really just thought it was amazing and received The Wall 2-CD anniversary addition for Christmas. I was hooked.

But then the sad part sunk in. I hadn't read the article carefully (and I didn't completely understand how Live 8 worked) and it turned out they were performing in England, and a few other places, on the same day! Good for them, sad for me. I guess I'll just have to catch it all on TV. I hope they are broadcasting - or I'll have to pick up album or buy tunes off iTunes.

Yes, this happened all happened about a week ago on June 12th. I'm just getting around to posting about it now.

Updates

UGH. They are going to live broadcast Pink Floyd from London for one show near the end. But I'm still not crazy enough to walk into a million-person crowd. Oh wait. I should still be able to catch that on TV I hope.

I'm rather disappointed with the TV coverage. I tuned in to watch the bands perform and the presenters. Instead I keep getting MTV people cutting into the music sets and long commerical breaks. I'll guess I'll have to wait for the DVDs and CDs. It still was way too much chaos for me to venture into Philly to catch it live and in-person.

Thank goodness, for the Pink Floyd set, they broadcasted it nearly uniterupted. I was really starting to get fustrated. And, it turns out the concerts were running at least an hour behind - I think, because Pink Floyd was supposed to be on around 5pm and didn't come on until about 6pm (my time). Now I just need to learn more about what Live 8 was really all about.

Call me crazy, but I feel better about my previous comments on the concert/event broadcast after I read an article on Yahoo! News. It also described the TV broadcast as sub-par. So it's not just me that was fustrated. Granted, I was more pleased with the Pink Floyd set than the article's author.

Looks like MTV heard the criticism loud and clear. I was surfing the channels happened to stop on MTV to see if their new show That 70s House was cheezy and catch a report instead that MTV heard loud and clear that viewers wanted more Live 8 so they are presenting a 5-hour highlight show!!! Talk about timing. Thanks for listening MTV. I hope they DVD this.

Either MTV made enough money off the advertising the first time around, they fired all the producers or really felt they needed some good karma because I'm just over an hour and a half into this special highlights show and NO COMMERICALS at all!!!
