iMixes at iTunes are Cool
With as busy as I've been for months, I didn't get back to iTunes to view the new music, but I finally made it there last night to search for Five for Fighting's 100 years (a.k.a "I am 33 for a moment"...). I must have seen that credit card commercial several times over the course of the weekend and now really wanted a copy of the song. I don't need another credit card. Reverse advertising maybe? I had to search for the artist because I totally wasn't sure who sang the song but I had the "I am 33 for a moment" part of the lyrics down.
So I spent some time browsing the other offerings at iTunes looking for various soundtracks and songs. Somewhere along the line I feel on a link to iMixes for Alias - my oh-so-favorite spy-girl show. I'd never make it as a spy. I don't have enough hand-eye coordination and keeping secrets just isn't my thing. I forget what I have to keep secret and spill the beans.
As I came to learn, iMixes are song lists that other iTunes users create. Saves you a bunch of time in searching for related songs. Several people went through and collected all the songs for the first 4 seasons of Alias. How cool is that? Apple made a smart move with this one. Aside from several other songs that I picked up, I bought about 15 songs from those lists alone at the bargain rate of $0.99 each. I did find complete play lists on the Internet for all 4 seasons so I’ll review and purchase more songs at some point.
For now I have a mix CD in my car and a play list on my iPod. I hadn’t been listing as much to my iPod lately. I think it was because my music collection was somewhat stagnant. New tunes = more playing time. Nice job Apple. With my luck all those lists were out for ages and I only stumbled on them now.
