Who Said Getting Home is Easy?
The weekly staff meeting had to be rescheduled several times and ended up at the end of the day yesterday. I wasn't sure if I was going to make my train but even with a few digressions I made it to the platform with time to spare. All that rushing just to find out the trains were running 5 to 8 minutes behind schedule. Oh if I knew then what I know now.
But Murphy's Law kicked in and at 4:50, the time my train was supposed to show up, they announce that overhead power was out! In short, no trains will be moving. Every 5 or so minutes they announce the power problem. Rubbing salt in the wound a little?
After 25 minutes or so, the power came back up and two trains loaded. Then came another announcement that a power line was down at the next station and to find another way home!!! Considering I don't live within 20 miles (or minutes), that's easier said than done.
One lady that I had been talking to suggested if we spilt a cab ride back to her train station she would drive me back to connecting train station. That was just too far out of her way for me even to consider asking. I ended up running into a guy that I usually see on my local train. I actually had an idea of how to get home and offered a route home to him that involved going to station in less than savory area. He was game so off we went. We did have to ask for directions once. A man that actually admits he gets lost! Who knew it was even possible?
All in all, we ended up taking three different trains and on the second train ran into 5 more people from my usual local train. It was actually one of those ladies that told me about this way home just last week! A sign maybe?
Thank goodness the $5 that I had covered all of my extra travel. I was nervous for a minute. We made it to the last leg of our scenic journey with enough time and money to spare for me to grad a soda from the newsstand. It was an incredibly long day. At least if it had been a Friday I wouldn't have had to get up this morning. But alas, today was another workday so off to work I ran but I did tap the ATM this morning just in case of another crazy day. I can sleep it all off tonight since it's Friday.
