Discovery is a Go

I remember clearly the day Columbia was lost. It was a sad day. They were about an hour or so into the news coverage when I heard the news. I had been watching a movie. I ran downstairs to make sure my father knew. I was guessing he didn't because he would have told me. He was working at home on Saturday as usual. For as much of space and astronomy nut as he was, it was one of the more difficult things that I had to tell him. We each stayed glued to our TVs to watch the news coverage but never really talked about it afterward. I barely remember the Challenger loss first hand. I didn't see the launch.

It saddens me that he's not here to see the shuttle's return to flight, but I’m sure he's one of many watching over the crew. I wish the crew a safe journey and mission!

Updates

The mission has been scrubbed, at least for now. There's a problem with a fuel tank sensor. Doesn't sound like something that should be malfunctioning and a new launch date hasn't been announced yet.

Same Day

They were originally hoping to send the shuttle off today but now they are hoping for late next week. Sounds like it's either a difficult to track down problem or difficult to fix. Bummer.
