Enough Cardio for One Day

I honestly thought today wasn’t going badly. It was quiet and I even stepped out for a few minutes with a co-worker to grab a soda to discuss work. Just as the day was about to wind down, the fire alarm went off. And after 30 seconds, the alarm went off. A few minutes later it went on again and then went off again. We scurried for the elevator to try and get out before having to walk down 23 flights of stairs. Unfortunately, the elevators didn’t work so we headed back to the stairs. Down 23 flights we walked except I was the slow one because my knees aren’t in the best of shape.

By the 15th floor, I was having a hard time negotiating some of the steps at times. Too much exercise in one session for me. We tried getting off at the 13th floor (which is really the 12th floor, but that’s another story). The elevator wasn’t working by then. At the 5th floor, I actually whimpered “Are we there yet” out of pure frustration and exhaustion.

I think a gallon of water came out of my pores, but I must be in better shape for the most part because I didn’t think my heart was going to jump out of chest. So even though we left the office early, I still ended up catching the same train. That’s how much of slow-poke I am when it comes to that many stairs.

The train ride seemed slow but it wasn’t until we nearly reached the station did I find out that we had several problems during the trip. At one station, the engineer pulled up to far on the platform and had to reposition the train since he couldn’t back it up. And then at another station, one of my fellow train-riders fell on the platform. It sounds like the gentleman is ok, thank goodness, but the conductor will have extra paperwork to do just in case there is a problem.

Just when it looked like we might cut it close, the train controllers made us wait on the tracks and had us change to the other track (i.e. run up the stairs and down the stairs to get over to the other platform). Somebody must be looking out for me because I did end up running for it and making the connection. We think they held the train the few extra minutes. Thanks a bunch train people.

Oh and then I get home only to find out the Amazon Marketplace seller sent the wrong book. At least I don’t have to go walking tonight. I had enough cardiovascular exercise for one day!
