Personal Space, hello!!!
I had to stay a bit late at the office tonight to finish up a last-minute request. No big deal, I'm happy to help. Luckily, I was able to catch the next train out so I was really only running 20 minutes behind my usual schedule. I grabbed myself a seat (in a three-seater) and pulled out my latest book. Another guy took the end position in the seat. I figured we were in good shape until the train arrived at the next station and we were packed in.
A guy, I believe an undergrad student, ended up taking the seat in the middle. No big deal, we have to share, but something just seemed a bit off. He decided to put his backpack between himself and the other guy. I ended up squashed again the window with my giant fiction book. At least he figured out quickly that wasn't the best idea but I still ended up being crowded. He left that space between him and the guy next to him. He then proceeded to quietly meditate. Thank goodness he was silent but I was still overly crowded and really didn't need an elbow in my side.
So the guy on the end gets off at the next stop and the guy in the middle doesn't move over. Earth to train-rider!!! At this point I'm starting to get claustrophobic. Thank goodness he got off at the next stop because I was just about to say something if it was going to become another 10 minutes of being squished. I don't know what this guy's deal was, but I guess he doesn’t get the concept of personal space?
