Playing Hooky

Ok, so I wasn't technically playing hooky but I didn't go to work today and I'm not going tomorrow either. Yes, I requested the time off at least a month ago and it was approved. I'm not AWOL or anything.

Today was my first appointment with my new dentist. Because it takes me an hour and a half to get to work (and from work for that matter), it doesn't make sense on most days to work a half-day. I would spend nearly more time commuting than I would working. Since I don't take many days off, today seemed like as good as any.

They hygienist was very nice but I miss my old dentist. It's just all very different and after 10-15 years going to the same dentist I just am not really for a change. I can only handle so much change in one year! The funny part is that my dentist is actually part of this practice now but he works on days that aren’t particularly convenient for me. Go figure. What can you do?

The good news is that everything checked out OK. I even worked up the nerve to ask about those DIY teeth whitener plastic strip things you can get over-the-counter. The hygienist said that they are safe enough and she had let her 18-year-old daughter use them. Now they aren't as powerful (they don't last as long or whiten as much) as the professional whitening but let's face, I'm cheap. So even if there is a fair amount of improvement and this only holds for 6 months, it's not a $500 investment.

I have a few chores to do and I need to get ready for tomorrow’s road trip. Now that’s going to be an adventure and a half.
