The Train that Almost Got Away
I really thought that we were in good shape coming home. They didn't switch our track so we didn't have to do the two-story run, but I knew it was going to be close. Just as we pulled into the station and opened the doors, my connection started coasting away. We were so close. Another 30 seconds and it wouldn't have been an issue.
Anyway, it was moving slowly enough that I could walk along side of it, half crouched down looking for a conductor. I was hoping that he (or she) would take pity on the lot of us and signal to stop the train.
The train slowed and stopped from its crawl. By then I only a few cars from the front and I saw the engineer jump out. A lady conductor waiting for another train yelled out that they won't open the doors. I'm sorry but I was going to be persistent about this one. If they're going to stop the train, they might as well open the doors.
Sure enough, the conductors opened the doors and in the mean time, the train I had just gotten off of was given the green light to leave the station and park in its usual spot. AKA, our train couldn't move anyway because the interlock was in use.
Good things do happen from time to time even when people don't expect it. And, it goes to show you that you shouldn't give up. Now I'm not saying that by me walking upside the train convinced the train people to hold the train. There were a lot of people on that platform giving the train that pleading look. It was a group effort.

Updates
Unfortunately we weren't as lucky today. The train pulled up at wrong platform yet again. It didn't seem that we were running that late. Even though a bunch of did the two-story run, the train still pulled away without stopping. Oh well. A bunch of us grumbled and I grabbed a soda. It was too hot to not get a sugar boost.
