I Am Still the Trainfly
About four months ago, the local train system switched up its people and I became just another face in the crowd. Boy, doesn't that sound sad. A few of the new guys would recognize me but it just wasn’t the same as being a true trainfly.
And, since the crew switch, they've taken to not opening all the cars on the local train on the way home. So, for example, if the train is supposed to have 6 open cars, the crew opens 4 for the first stop, opens another after a stop or two and then finally opens the last car after a couple more stops. It's an attempt at balancing the people I guess. Personally, I think it just makes more of a mess of things.
Myself and another gentleman would sit at the back of the last open car and when the conductor opened the next car, we would make a mad dash for the back. At my stop, as well as his, people nearly run you over when you're trying to get off the train. The further I can get down the train and away from the station house, the less trampled and shoved I am.
Apparently the conductor has been watching our kooky behavior and picked up on the pattern. For the last few trips, he's been giving my fellow rider the head nod and slips us into the empty back car ahead of everyone else. How funny is this? We end up with a car to ourselves as we chat the few stops that I ride. It's great to be a trainfly.
