Now There's Something You Don't See Every Day
I really thought it was going to be another frustrating ride into the city this morning. We already missed our connection once this week. Just when I thought things were moving along on schedule and our train would come on time, the conductors for the expensive train were standing on the platform much too long. I could hear the front conductor calling in the train number. Oh no, now what?
Next thing I know, the train goes silent. That's never a good sign. And just as I look up towards the front of the train, I see that front conductor opening the trap and lowering himself down to track level. He was just about squashed between the train and the platform. Good thing he turned that power off. That would have been a lot of volts. It's not on a usual day that you see a head moving around under the train.
Fearing this could be a long morning I was hoping they would board our train from the middle track. It's doable as there is a wooden platform at track level to access one car, but what I thought was our train turned out to be some sort of deadhead express heading towards the end of the line. Oh well.
At least the expensive train was fixed fairly quickly and on its way. I don't know how we did it but we made it to the connection with a minute or so to spare so we didn't miss the train for the second time this week.
