You Can’t Take Her Anywhere

Being it was a Saturday night and Mom didn't feel like cooking, we decided to go out to dinner. Mom received a very generous gift card to one of her favorite local restaurants for her birthday. It turned into one of those nights where we were hungry, getting seated took a few extra minutes and the food just wasn’t coming fast enough. I have no idea why because there were a bunch of open booths where we were seated.

Anyway, as the hostess seated us, she took away the extra place settings. Somewhere along the line, our forks were also removed, but we didn't realize it until we returned from the salad bar. Yes, I got salad bar this time and given it took forever to get our food, I'm happy I did.

So there we were about to eat our salads when we realized that we didn't have any forks. Mom quietly told me to take place settings from the table behind us. As I turned around, I said that there was someone sitting there and I obviously couldn’t steal from an occupied table. Mom ended up getting up and grabbing forks from the table next to that one. It looked uninhabited. She's bolder than I am.

Halfway through our salads, I noticed that a large party was seated at that pillaged table! I just started giggling uncontrollably and tried to "eye" gesture to Mom to look at the table. It took a few tries before I gave up and said, "Look at the table you took for forks from". She just started laughing. It wasn't until I heard them ask for extra place settings because their forks were missing did I start laughing harder. I think one of the other tables caught on because I thought I was getting goofy looks from them.

Is this a strike against my karma points? But we did stop as Sam’s on the way home to buy bottled water for the Hurricane Victims relief efforts. I suggested that Mom buy an extra package.
