New Year's Resolution: Invest

So I've been contributing to an IRA account for the last several years but not really doing much with it. I really couldn't get my head around investing as my stock picks are generally pathetic. So in the New Year I want to get serious about investing. To do that, I'm in the process of moving my retirement money from a regular investing company to a company that runs a bunch of mutual funds. I'll split my money between their various mutual funds.

The key I've been hearing is diversify, diversify, diversify. So I picked out different funds that focus on different things. I originally wanted to go with one of those Retirement Date funds. They can help take the guess work out of this crazy thing called investing but I was disappointed with the track record of the one fund. For now, investing directly into some of the funds that that fund invests in seems like a better idea.

I have a list funds lined up and looked at their past performance and Morning Star ratings. While past performance is no guarantee of future returns, it at least shows that the people running the funds have a clue what they are doing especially in the bad market conditions we saw a few years ago.

Fingers crossed.
