And The Taxes Are Done...
Thank goodness, one yearly chore is just about done. My accountant called earlier this week to say that they were ready to be picked up and reviewed.
It's important to review the completed returns because humans are filling in the forms (even with the software assistance) and humans make mistakes. I've heard some people will argue it's a waste of money to hire someone to do your taxes for you, especially if they’re on the relatively simple side, but say it's cheaper to pay a professional than pay penalties and fees when you mess up.
Everything looked good by me and I signed off on the electronic filling form and dropped it back by the office. So they should be officially submitting my returns sometime this week. I'm excited because the estimated taxes that I paid will be completely returned plus a few bucks. Turned out I qualified for an education deduction that I hadn't seen in the past. I also expected to owe a few bucks to the state. Turns out I'm getting those few bucks back too.
So I'll have a nice chunk of money to put into my mortgage down payment savings. Now if I can just get passed a few more hurdles including overly inflated housing costs, I'll be good to go!!!
