Arrived Safe And Sound
So we arrived in Florida in one piece. Mom got nervous when we missed turn-off for the parking lot this morning. The directions weren't 100% accurate. We stayed in the left lane like the instructions said, but the turnoff was in the right lane. We did get to the airport with time to spare and we'll just leave it at that.
I'm still not a fan of take-offs and landings. The flight was pretty smooth. Just a little bit of bumpiness. They served juice and small muffins as the in-flight snacks. We lucked out and had an empty seat in our row so I grabbed the window seat for awhile.
I think I will get a different bag the next time I have to travel. I basically have a huge duffel bag with wheels that I used for my High School Senior trip to Florida. After dragging it through the Florida airport, I think my leg is covered in bruises from being banged by the bag. And, it did not sit on the escalator nicely.
So we picked up the rental car at the airport and my first reaction was "leather, hello?" Leather seats in Florida seem like a 2nd degree burn waiting to happen. As we drove out of the airport and aimlessly towards the hotel, my butt was really getting hotter. I really thought it was going to be a long trip if my butt was that hot on a shaded seat. I finally figured out why my rear felt unnaturally toasty. Apparently the rental not only has heated seats but mine was turned on. Hello?!? In Florida?!?
It took a few tries to find the hotel considering we had no directions. I should have stuck with my gut and kept us going north. Let's just say it was the day of u-turns.
We opted to do a little exploring of the area. We checked out an upper-scale mall of course. Wouldn't you know there was a tea store (Teavana) in there? How funny was that? Maybe I'll go back and pick something up before we leave.
We also checked out downtown a little bit. There's a nifty science museum with an IMAX theatre. The 3d underwater movie was amazing. You have to keep an eye on Mom. She dropped her headset in the trash after watching another girl almost do the same. Oh the dumpster diving... I laughed way too hard.
I picked up a really cool agate slice, very thick, for an amazing price. They also have a nice selection of Egyptian replicas that I may go back and check out after we see the King Tut exhibit on Tuesday.
Call me a wimp but by 6 PM I was ready to call it a day. I woke up around 4 AM and didn't really sleep on the plane. Tomorrow is the first official work-day vacation.
