Skyrocketing to Third Place
I woke up this morning, literally to the news that 11th seeded George Mason had knocked UCONN, the heavily favored for the finals, out the competition. That sat me up pretty darn straight at 4:45 AM. From what I understand of how this all works, that's a pretty significant upset and one that I don't think many, if any, saw coming.
I figured that would side me back into no-mans land at the bottom of the bracket. With UCONN out, my selection for tournament champion, and my prior picks not particularly great, I really thought I would sink in the bracket challenge. And, probably be laughed at.
So I pulled up the bracket and looked further down the list only to not find my name. That was disconcerting for a second to think I had fallen that far that I didn't even get a place on the bracket. Remember there was the one entry sporting a solid "0" so the worst I could really do was next to last. I looked up further only to realize that I had skyrocketed into third place, something I didn't even think was possible based on a conversation I had with another challenge the other day. He figured at best I'd finish in the middle. That was before UCONN got knocked out of course, and then from there anything could happen.
Now the games not over yet, so I can't any chickens, but it will be interesting to see how things come out.
