Keeping To The Budget
So about a month ago I decided to rework my budget since I really wasn't saving as much as I could have. And spending a bit more than I should, but that's another story. The good news was that during the month, I did discover that I had reached my savings goal - call me surprised - but I could still do better.
What is helping is that I am receiving a good couple of bucks worth of interest each month thanks to those online savings accounts that have a much higher interest rate than regular brick and mortar banks. Don't get me wrong, I really like face-to-face banking for the day-to-day stuff, but when I’m just looking for a place to stash money for awhile, online savings accounts are nice to have.
I digress. For the last few weekends, I've had an extra 7% off grocery store coupon to use. That's been helpful as I’ve picked up a few things in advance but this weekend I decided I should dig into my stockpile and only buy the absolute necessaries for the week. I only wanted to spend about $10 for food that I take to work. I did pick up some extra yogurt because it was on sale and dated far enough in the future. My grand total for "work food" came in at $9.99. Nicely done. I do have to admit 2 small splurges: diet cream soda and a jar of salsa. Since I have some baked chips to finish up, it really was just about a necessary snack wasn't it? I haven't had cream soda in ages so that was also worth the $4. I'm actually on budget for once!
