Don't Count Gibbs Out Yet
NCIS is definitely on my favorite TV shows list. It will be back in the fall, thank goodness. It’s a little early for episode spoilers, but… Now for those of you that watched the season finale last week, Special Agent Gibbs (Mark Harmon) recovered his memory just in time to watch the Military let a ship explode. Not being a Military person myself I have no idea what the right call was to make – let the ship get to port and probably explode or sacrifice the crew and ship. Needless to say Gibbs was sickened by the decision that ultimately led to the loss of the crew and ship. He turned in his badge in a fit of rage and stormed out of the building.
Having watched the show just about from the beginning, the show wasn’t ready to replace a strong main character like Gibbs. Nothing against the other characters (actors), but Gibbs really brings the show together. It reminds me of Stargate SG-1. O’Neil (Richard Dean Anderson) is a strong character, but after many years, the other SG-1 characters have become strong characters in their own right and new lead characters have held the show together. It’s definitely different but still works.
Needless to say, you can’t loose Gibbs on NCIS. Never fear, word on the street is that Mark Harmon isn’t leaving the show. I’m sure they’ll have a situation in the Fall that will force Gibbs to come back – or maybe he’ll just get tired of fishing in Mexico. Either way, I’m excited for the next season of NCIS.
