Season (and Series) Finales (2006)
Sometimes I think the TV Execs don't want me to watch TV anymore. They managed to cancel (or not renew) 3 shows that I was watching regularly: Alias, The West Wing and Charmed. I have to admit they added a few news ones to the roster this year including Prison Break, that I have enjoyed and look forward to next season.
Alias definitely ended on an action-packed high note. I think they even gave it a happy ending with a future-based epilogue. There was a little foreshadowing of a spy-tot. There’s some feeling that a movie could be possible about Isabelle.
The West Wing was given the dignified ending that it deserved. I’m disappointed that it won’t continue to see how Santos does at the helm.
Charmed was a great show that I missed a fair amount of episodes this season because it overlapped with the The West Wing. I'll have to catch up on the rest via DVD. They did a great job of tying in the different characters, past and present to tie up storylines. The finale left us with a feeling that the characters have a future even if we can’t see it play out completely. I'm going to admit that I got pretty teary as they showed the epilogue. It gave closure. Now I just need to catch up on the episodes that I missed.
Conviction was a great one-season-wonder that I'm very disappointed wasn't picked up for next year. Even though I'm not a lawyer, it was a show that I could kind of relate to because the main characters were my age, trying to find their way in the working world. It had a problematic timeslot, Fridays at 10. I missed a bunch of episodes that I was hoping to catch up on but they don’t seem to be replaying them like I thought they were going to.
24: boy was that president-guy evil. Or maybe he was a complete idiot. Can you be evil and an idiot at the same time? The ending was definitely action-packed and left at a serious cliffhanger – Jack's in the hands of some serious people being tortured. I know the show's been picked up for 3 more seasons. I just hope they can keep it fresh. At least they've left themselves a good starting point.
How about that NCIS ending? After 3 seasons it was peak into Gibbs' past, something that was always kept secret. Gibbs’ storming out at the end really hand me wondering. But, don't count Gibbs out yet. I'm excite to see how next season goes.
Lost: questions answered, new questions created. They’re definitely going to keep us going that’s for sure. Killing off a couple of regular characters near the end was definitely interesting but word on the street is that they are casting a couple of new characters. I wonder if we could count many people we've seen over the course of two seasons if we'd have 47 (I think that's the number) survivors or a few more?
Prison Break ended it's season with an adrenaline rush. The whole hand thing was a bit much for me. At least they took the Hitchcock way out and didn't really show anything. Thank you. The suggestion was plenty for me. But they killed of Westmoreland. From what I hear, next season will be showing them on the run. Filming is getting ready to start if it hasn’t already.
Oooo. I missed John Doe the first time around. And it's even cooler that it's the guy from Prison Break. But you can't leave me hanging like that! All I can say is Digger!!! I read an explanation about how JD got his incredible amount of mental knowledge that came from the show’s creator. I don't know if I saw that explanation coming but after noting several references to the Vatican then maybe it wasn't too farfetched of a explanation. I'll take a book at this point if they aren't going to make a movie to wrap things up.
Speaking of books. One of Carnivale would also be nice. Last May HBO announced they wouldn't be bringing it back because the production costs were too high. Boohoo. That was the first HBO series that I watched and really got into it. You could really feel the dust. Anyway, they pretty much left us hanging and according to sources, the show's creator has about 6 seasons total written. I think he's thinking about releasing a book if they don't do a wrap-up movie. If it's a well written book, that would work too.
Doctor Who ended on an interesting note with a new "doctor" taking over. Rose survived her body possession experience to travel time another day. I have to admit that I missed all the "bad wolf" references up until they were pointed out. And, I caught another one while watching the marathon. I definitely enjoyed watching a new Doctor Who series. This is some of the stuff that I grew up on and they really kept it in the spirit of the franchise.
The Stargates and Battlestar Galactica should be starting up fairly soon. Rome will be back in January. That's a long time to wait, but it will be worth the wait. The 4400 just started up again. It's already shaping up to be an interesting season after killing off Lily and now there’s rouge bunch of returnees threatening terrorism. SciFi and USA are definitely coming through to keep me watching TV.
