Apparently We Stare the Same
It’s been a long couple of weeks. I had bought tickets to see Cyndi Lauper for this weekend a couple of months back. Unfortunately the timing turned out to be bad. After hemming and hawing about going, we decided we could make it work by staying over near Atlantic City after the concert.
Mom and I set out mid-afternoon taking the usual route. The hotel was surprisingly nice. We’ve had a disappointing run in the past and were very happy with the last-minute accommodations (at a reasonable price). Dinner was a quick stop at the local Denny’s which was nice too. We snuck in some boardwalk time, spending the majority of the time playing skeeball.
The Pier (mall) is really nice. Unfortunately we were only had a enough time to stick a toe in the door before running off to the concert. The seats were decent and the venue was cool. Mom wasn’t a huge fan of the opening act. Knowing what we know now, we could have waited until almost 9pm to get in instead of sitting there for 2 hours.
Cyndi put on an excellent show. There were a few annoying fans in the crowd right behind us. She played the songs I knew, a few I didn’t know. Her enegery is completely amazing. And her laid back style refreshing. We really enjoyed the main event.
Afterward, we tried checking out the boardwark for snacks but ended up at a bread place in the casino. Mom’s pizza took forever to be delivered. I opted for a croissant and orange juice. Note to self: avoid that much acid after midnight.
So while I was sitting there, security was confronting an excessively drunk guy. They even got him coffee and moved him over to a booths. He was moaning and completely incoherent. I ended up trading side comments with the ladies sitting next to me. Mom was still waiting for her pizza at this point. The guy’s wife showed up and he was still blubbering away. The guy actually got up at one point, walked out the side door, and… you know. We’re all sitting there trying not to look considering there was a huge picture window right there!
Mom finally sat down next to me and we just zoned out. She didn’t notice the whole “drunk guy” thing going on. The next thing I know the lady sitting next to us said, “You must be mother and daughter. You stare exactly the same. The same eyes…”. That’s the first time I’ve heard that one. It was good for a laugh.
It made for an interesting end to an interesting evening.
