Mission Streisand Complete
Mom, her friend since kindergarten, and I made it to and from NYC in one piece. We had a couple of hours to spend before the concert officially began. The train ride wasn't too bad. It was a full train but they weren't packed in. We stopped for pizza quickly for dinner. The plan was to check out Macy's for a little while but the fire department was on the scene because of an electrical fire in a bathroom from what we could find out. Instead, we ended up at mulling around Borders for a little while. There was this one board book that… never mind. I did buy a French phrase book that focuses more on slag than the run-of-the-mill phrases you get from French class.
With about an hour or so left to go before the doors officially opened, we wandered into the Garden. I'm not a huge fan of standing in one place for more than 15 minutes at one time, but it's a good thing we did. By the time the doors finally opened, the lobby area was packed.
We found our seats, and I have admit, I was pretty happy with the seats considering I probably grabbed someone's discarded tickets on Ticketmaster.com. Unfortunately we sat in the wrong section. Our actual seats were at about the same height, closer to the side-stage. The only real complaint about the seats was that because we were under an overhang, the big screens where not as low was they needed to be. Nothing personal but I really didn't want to see only cleavage shots on the big screen. Her head was hidden by the ceiling above us.
Overall, the concert was nice. It was different from her previous performances from what I’ve been told. Since I’m not a huge Barbra follower, I really wasn't familiar with her "Funny Girl" music, so for me, the concert kind of lost something. She really didn't focus on her more popular songs that I know. We were sitting about 2 sections over from the now infamous heckler that got a crowd stunning "Shut the F- up". I don't think I have ever seen Mom's eyes bug that far out of her head before.
Attending concerts in NYC are fun because you also get to see a few celebs along the line. We saw Rosie, Oprah, Tony Bennett, Dinkins, former NYC Mayors Koch and Dinkins, and Al Sharpton. Apparently Barbara Walters, Sarah Jessica Parker and Robert De Niro were also in attendance but we didn't see them.
