Contact Lens Solution Recalled

By pure chance I happened to catch a news article on Yahoo! News that said my contact lens solution was being recalled (Complete Moisture Plus by AMO). Obviously I am not happy to hear this but am glad that I found the article.

There is some additional information on the AMO site where you can call for a product return kit. I just called for mine. I have one unopened bottle and one halfway used bottle.

Unfortunately this news came right in the middle of a 3-day holiday weekend so I have to wait until Tuesday to call the eye doctor since I don't think I have an emergency on my hands. I need a recommendation for a new product and also want to ask if I should be screened for infection though I don't have symptoms. I'm generally super careful with my contact lens care, replace every two weeks and use an initial alcohol-based lens cleaner at the advice of my doctor. It sounds like the infection is primarily caused by people being lax in their lens care. I'm guessing the solution isn't strong enough to combat the parasite that causes the infection.

Did I mention that I wasn't happy to hear about this? I guess a contact lens vacation is good from time to time.
